What certifications and qualifications does the Beltway Pools team have?
At Beltway Pools, ongoing education and professional development are at the core of everything we do. Every member of our team holds at least one industry certification, ensuring you receive expert guidance at every stage of your project. Our team collectively holds the following credentials:
- CMS – Certified Maintenance Specialist
- CST – Certified Service Technician

We are also a Class A licensed contractor in Virginia, hold an MHIC license in Maryland, and are fully licensed in Washington, DC.
How long does the pool design and construction process take from start to finish?
The timeline depends on the complexity of your design, the permitting process in your jurisdiction, and seasonal demand. As a general guide:
- 4–6 months for a straightforward residential pool
- Up to 12 months for larger or more complex projects
The permitting phase is often the biggest variable, since approval timelines differ significantly by county. We'll give you a realistic timeline estimate during your initial consultation.
How long does a pool renovation typically take?
Most pool renovations are completed within 4 to 6 weeks. The exact timeline depends on the scope of the work—a simple replaster is faster than a full rebuild with new tile, coping, and equipment upgrades.
We'll provide you with a clear project schedule before work begins so you know what to expect at every phase. Request a renovation quote to get started.
Do I need to be home during pool maintenance visits?
No—you don't need to be present as long as we have access to your pool area and equipment room. Many of our regular maintenance clients aren't home during their scheduled visits. Our technicians complete the service and document the condition of your pool so you always know what was done.
How can I tell if my pool needs a full renovation or just repairs?
Some common signs that your pool may need more than routine repairs include:
- Rough or deteriorating plaster surface
- Hollow or shifting coping stones
- Cracked tile or failing grout
- Persistent water loss that isn't explained by evaporation
- Outdated or failing equipment affecting water quality or safety
The line between a repair and a renovation isn't always obvious. Our repair specialists are trained to assess the underlying condition of the structure and equipment—not just visible symptoms—and we'll give you an honest recommendation on what's actually needed.
When is the right time to open my pool in Virginia or Maryland?
In the Northern Virginia and Maryland area, most pool owners open their pools between late April and mid-May, once overnight temperatures consistently stay above 50°F. Opening too early isn't a problem—in fact, treating your water before algae season kicks in can actually make the process easier and reduce chemical costs.
If you're unsure about timing, give us a call and we can help you schedule based on your pool type and the current weather outlook.
When should I close my pool in Virginia or Maryland?
In the DMV area, we generally recommend closing your pool between mid-September and the end of October, once daytime temperatures are consistently below 65°F. Closing too late risks freeze damage to pipes and equipment when the first hard frost hits.
If you want a specific recommendation based on your pool type and location, contact us and we'll help you pick the right window.
Do I need a pool inspection before buying a home?
Absolutely — and it's one of the most important due-diligence steps you can take. A standard home inspection rarely covers pool equipment, plumbing, or water chemistry in depth. Our dedicated pool inspection evaluates the pool's structure, equipment condition, safety compliance, and estimated repair costs so you have a clear picture of what you're purchasing before closing.
